How to Care for Your New Kitchen Cabinets

care kitchen cabinets

Keeping your cabinets clean and organized is a great way to utilize them to their full potential.

The kitchen is one of the messiest rooms in the house. Grease from cooking, food spills, and moisture all affect your kitchen, especially the kitchen cabinets. It’s important to know how to clean your cabinets in order to preserve their appearance and usefulness. These tips will help you to keep your new cabinets looking their best!

Install Shelf and Drawer Liners

You can minimize dirt and grime on the insides of your cabinets–as well as protect fragile china and glassware–by inserting shelf and drawer liners. You can place a sheet of parchment paper on the inside of the cabinet under the sink and use vinyl liners for the insides of other shelves and cabinets to keep knives from sliding, glasses from tipping, and plates from toppling. Other types of liners include cork, cedar, felt, and rubber.

Clean Your Hardware

Grime can build up quickly in the kitchen, especially around the handles of kitchen cabinets. The best way to clean this pesky grime is with a washcloth, warm water, and a mild dishwashing liquid. You can even give your hardware a deep cleaning by unscrewing it and soaking it in warm, soapy water for thirty minutes. Scrub off grime lightly with a soft brush and let dry completely before replacing.

Dusting

Dust is another thing that must be constantly cleaned in the kitchen, as well as throughout the house. We recommend using a clean, soft, lint-free cloth to wipe up dust. Avoid pre-moistened or scented cloths, as the chemicals can have a detrimental effect on the wood finish of your kitchen cabinets. Remember to pay special attention to the interior corners of your cabinets as well as the out-of-sight tops of your cabinets!
