You may be so preoccupied with maintenance inside the home that you haven’t really stopped to consider maintenance outside the home. Maintaining a home requires a lot of hard work every day, so it’s easy to forget about something like siding. Take a moment to consider the following to see if it’s time to invest in replacement siding.
Warping or Rotting
Stand at the corner of your home and inspect your siding. Does it run around your house in perfectly straight, even lines, or does it have the occasional bump or irregularity? Using a screwdriver, gently prod underneath the warped areas to get an idea for how solid the underlayer is. If it seems soft, then it’s definitely time for replacement siding.
Holes
Another thing to look for as you’re inspecting your siding is small holes. Generally, holes in your siding are created by invasive insects. Once there are holes in your siding, moisture can also get through. If you notice any holes, it would be best to call an exterminator if there seems to be a pest issue and have your old siding replaced to protect your home from moisture.
Bubbles
Besides making your house look attractive, siding helps to maintain your home by keeping moisture out. If you notice any bubbles in your siding, that means that water is trapped beneath the siding. New siding will eliminate this problem. If moisture becomes a big problem, you’ll start to notice your interior walls flaking. Replacing your siding quickly can help to prevent this from happening.
Mold, Mildew, or Fungus
While mold, mildew, and fungus are not huge problems themselves, they can be an indicator of a more serious problem. Mold, mildew, and fungus often grow where there is moisture. Inspect your siding closely to see if the underlayer is soft.
