Here at Capital Remodeling, we get asked a lot of questions about vinyl siding. To make things easier, here are some Frequently Asked Questions that cover everything you need to know about vinyl siding!
How Can I Tell My Siding is Bad?
We’ve written a whole blog about this very subject! To give you a brief summary, basically just look for signs of mold or fungus, siding that is detaching or swelling, and paint that is flaking.
How Can I Tell If My Home Has Dry Rot?
Unfortunately, it’s difficult to tell if your home has dry rot until the siding is removed. You can only tell that you have dry rot without moving the siding in very extreme cases; in these cases, the vinyl will have excessive moisture on the surface, or you’ll have moisture inside the home. As soon as we remove some of the siding, we’ll be able to tell how extensive the damage is and what needs to be done to fix the problem.
When is the Best Time to Get New Siding?
Siding can be replaced year round, but the best time of year to have siding replaced, by far, is during the fall. Many homeowners tend to get their siding replaced in the spring or summer, so if you opt to have your siding replaced in the fall you’re more likely to get an appointment quickly. Plus, summer heat expands vinyl, so it may contract and crack when the weather becomes too cold. Getting your siding done in the fall ensures that you get a quick appointment, that your siding is installed properly, and that your home is cozy and insulated when winter hits.
Why Should I Replace My Siding?
New vinyl siding breathes new life into your home! Your home will have a fresh new look while also being easier to maintain. Getting your siding replaced regularly helps to keep the home insulated and prevents nasty problems from growing under old siding, such as mold, infestations, or dry rot. Plus, if you are planning to sell your home, brand new siding will help to make the right first impression!
