Now that summer is coming to an end, and the cold winds of fall are approaching, you’re going to need more insulation to protect your home from being damaged by the weather. You also don’t want to lose the warm air keeping your home cozy. Here are some types of gas fills used to insulate your replacement windows.

Argon

Most of the replacement windows that you see will be filled with argon gas. Of all the gases available in the atmosphere, argon is only about 1% of it. However, it is easy to duplicate and make more of, so it is also a cost-efficient way to insulate a window. Compared to oxygen, it has 67% more heat resistance, which means that in the late summer sun, less heat will come into your home while still allowing adequate amounts of light.

Krypton

Krypton is another gas fill that is commonly used in replacement windows. Windows that feature krypton are more energy efficient than ones with argon in it. It is much denser and provides better results than argon does, too. Unfortunately, it’s not as easy to find, which makes it much more expensive than its counterpart gas well.

Xenon

One of the reasons you want to get replacement windows installed is that you want your new windows to be bigger than the ones you have now. If that’s the case, then you’ll want to seek out replacement windows that feature a larger portion of xenon in its gas fill mixture. However, the wider you make your windows, the more glass you will need, which will have an impact on the energy efficiency of each window.

However, xenon gas can offset potential energy losses more effectively than either argon or krypton. The main drawback is that xenon is the rarest and most expensive form of gas fill for any replacement window. Although you will save money, compared to using argon and krypton, it may take longer than you think.

Whatever you decide, don’t hesitate to put your trust in a company that specializes in replacement windows. We can help improve your home’s exterior this fall, whether you want single-pane or double-pane replacement windows.
